How Many Devices Can Use YouTube Premium at the Same Time? (2025 Guide)

By Krishnamohan Yagneswaran

The number of devices that can stream YouTube Premium at once depends entirely on your subscription plan.
Here’s the updated 2025 breakdown of simultaneous streaming limits, offline device rules, and household requirements.

📱 Simultaneous Streaming Limits

1. Individual Plan / Student Plan

  • 1 device at a time
  • Works for both video and YouTube Music

2. Two-Person Plan

  • 2 devices can stream simultaneously
(Both users must live in the same household.)

3. Family Plan

  • Up to 6 individual household members
  • Each member can stream on their own device at the same time

Perfect for large households with multiple users.

🎬 Special Case: Free-of-Cost YouTube Movies

For some free movies on YouTube Movies & Shows, streaming limits differ:

  • Individual Plan: 1 device
  • Two-Person Plan: 2 devices
  • Family Plan: Up to 4 devices can stream the same movie

These limits apply only to selected free movies and not regular YouTube videos.

⚠️ Important Considerations

1. Different Browsers = Different Devices

Opening YouTube in:

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Edge
on the same computer counts as multiple streams.

2. Offline Downloads (Device Authorization Limit)

  • You can authorize up to 10 devices for offline downloads
  • Applies across all users (for family plans too)
  • If you add an 11th device, the oldest device is automatically removed
  • Device swaps are limited to 4 times per year

3. Household Requirement

Two-person and family plans require:

  • All members must live in the same household
  • YouTube verifies this occasionally via location checks

This ensures the plan is not shared across distant locations.
