Visual Studio Code (VS Code) is a lightweight but powerful code editor available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Here’s how to download and install it on your system.

🛠 Step-by-Step Instructions to Download and Install VS Code

  1. Go to the Official Download Page
Open your web browser and visit: code.visualstudio.com/download

  2. Select Your Operating System
The site usually auto-detects your OS and shows a download button:

    • Windows: Click “Download for Windows”
    • macOS: Click “Download for Mac”
    • Linux: Choose your preferred package: .deb (Debian/Ubuntu), .rpm (Fedora/RHEL), or .tar.gz
  3. Run the Installer

    • Locate the downloaded file in your Downloads folder and open it.
  4. Follow the Setup Wizard

    • Windows: Accept the license agreement. Check the box “Add to PATH” to allow running the code command from the terminal.
    • macOS: Drag the VS Code icon into the Applications folder.
    • Linux: Follow the package instructions specific to your distribution.
  5. Launch VS Code

    • Windows: Use the Start Menu
    • macOS: Open from Applications
    • Terminal: Type code to launch VS Code (requires PATH setup)

🧠 Tip: After installation, running code in your terminal confirms VS Code is properly added to PATH. If it doesn’t work, make sure the option was checked during installation (Windows) or relog your terminal session.
